Nikki + Jessie had booked out the Fitters Workshop as their venue. For a few days it was in their name, all the decorating was on them, of which they did a smashing job.

We asked Nikki + Jessie what marriage means to them. They both agreed that marriage is a symbol of their love, commitment, and devotion to one another. They got to share and celebrate this with each of their dearest family and friends. AND! … they could officially call the other “my wife”, something they were both very excited about.

So let us rewind to when these two love birds first met. It was 2017 and they were at Splendour in the Grass with mutual friends. They’d never met before but when officially introduced Nikki found herself recalling a friend’s description of Jessie as “not-so-chill”. Interestingly, Jessie’s early observations of Nikki were that she’s very care-free and a lot of fun. So, care-free Nikki makes a bowl of punch with the help of “not-so-chill” Jessie’s vodka she’d stashed in a shampoo bottle, and from here, a friendship formed.

It was in Braddon later that year that their friend crushing-phase transformed to the lover-phase. This was a significant day not just on the micro level of Nikki and Jessie, but on the macro, as it was the celebration of marriage equality in Australia. Soon after, there was a special trip to Melbourne where Nikki and Jessie lost track of time and missed their return flight home. So, after deciding they would get the bus back to Canberra later that night, they dined at an Italian restaurant before sitting in Lincoln Park and drinking a bottle of wine they had dug out of their luggage. This park bench moment was it, the moment they knew they were falling in love. A moment they revisited three years later. Again, there was a wine bottle in hand only this time it had a label that read “Jessie, will you marry me?”.

These two followed the stereotypical lesbian love story falling hard and fast. Before you knew it, they’d moved in together and Nikki would stay up late on a Saturday night to serve pasta at 11pm after Jessie finished work. They would listen to records into the wee hours of Sunday morning. These nights reminded them time and time again, that they had found their person.

It’s unique to find a couple that enjoys arguing over who will get up to greet the UberEATS delivery whilst hungover with a raging headache. This really is an example of what makes Jessie and Nikki a magic match. They celebrate each other’s quirks and find joy in the unique and the mundane. They know that life is better together.

In terms of their future, the doing is not important, it’s the being together that will make their time together extraordinary.
