Late last year we celebrated Kirsty + Matt’s love story on the land of the Ngarigo + Walgal people.
Matt + Kirsty love the snowy mountains region, the rolling hills, the mountains, the long grass, the snow gums, and the creeks. They could see themselves living in an area like it… Upon visiting Charlotte Pass in May 2021, they knew straight away it would be the place for them to get married.
Love story
It was February 2020 in a pre-covid world. Matt reached out to Kirsty on Instagram having felt inspired, not to find love but to find a running coach. So, after a short time, they met up for a “group running session" and a connection was felt by both of them. They continued to talk every day for the next three months.
Kirsty’s first impressions were that Matt was very handsome and she sensed that he was trying to impress her which was both endearing and funny. The conversation continued online until May 17 when Matt and his friends came to camp at Kirsty’s place because the National Parks were closed for camping due to the pandemic. That night, Matt couldn’t take his eyes off Kirsty.
They stayed up chatting about anything and everything until about 4am in the morning. So that weekend the fire at the campsite slowly burnt out but things were heating up (ooohhhhh we had to write it like this… ) in the land of Matt and Kirsty. Within 5 days, Matt has asked Kirsty to be his girlfriend and he knew he was in love.
Kirsty’s ah-ha-love-moment which was slightly less romantic and happened shortly after this. The two were sitting in the car at Minnehaha falls carpark doing a happy food dance after eating sausage rolls for lunch. Kirsty took a sip of her choccy milk and choked which ended up with the milk running out her nose. There was no embarrassment, only good belly laughs and affirmation that they were on the right track.
Whilst Matt’s proposal in Nepal was really quite spectacular, these two shine in the everyday. Beyond their matching outfits which Matt likes to coordinate, it’s the simple but profound things like the tenderness and care the show one another, the laughter, their impromptu dancing, Matt’s creative song writing and singing, Kirsty’s massive hugs matched with verbal affection that she can't contain, and Matt’s ability to both annoy the shit out of and completely calm Kirsty. For the future - Matt hopes to win the lottery - but apart from that, these two don’t want to take things too seriously, so long as they are together and continue to support each other to be the best versions of themselves, they think life will be pretty damn sweet.
Their day
Kirsty + Matt, being the adventurous couple they are, engaged and a super talented photographer and some videographers, and before the late afternoon ceremony, they trapsed around the Snowy’s all day and captured some beautiful scenery.
The best surprise was after the conclusion of the ceremony, everyone was given a card and on said card, their was a pic of Matt + Kirsty’s creation. They’re pregnant and whilst some expected it, it didn’t take away from the double downed celebration of their love story to date and what’s to come…
